Explore the Residency

This large bedroom features a Purple brand queen bed and half bath. A large window overlooks the giant magnolia tree right outside the house. Hardwood floors and a decorative fireplace make for a cozy and inspiring retreat.

A double bed and full crib are set up in the Gray bedroom, making it the perfect space for an additional adult and/or a child’s room. The windows overlook the front garden and side yard with views of the chickens and bees! A brick fireplace is the centerpiece for this beautiful room.

We renovated this room when Kaylan needed a home studio space. It used to be an attic! We added 5 windows which bring in lots of light and the nearby trees create a tree-house effect. An artist’s drawing table is in front of one set of windows as well as a small desk for a child to work alongside you. A comfy day bed with twin mattress allows for extra sleeping space for an older child or additional adult if needed. Use this versatile room as an indoor studio, extra bedroom, or reading room!

The Den features a large screen Roku TV, used for previewing video work, watching a movie at night, or putting on a show for the kids. This room is bright and welcoming with comfortable furniture including a couch, coffee table and gliding chair. A great space for relaxing after a long day in the studio.

This light filled room is our favorite in the house! The large bay window overlooks the front garden and magnolia tree. Grab a book from the built in bookshelf and curl up in a chair to read or watch the birds. This area makes a great music room as well. Bring your guitar or play the upright piano that awaits you in the room. A second large window overlooks the side yard where you can see the chickens roaming around or get a view of the studio.

A beautiful home gallery space, enjoy eating at our large wood table while surrounded by art! There are floor to ceiling windows that shine lots of light into this space. An arched entryway and crown molding add lots of character to the room. The open floor makes a great dancing area too.

Our back yard is a fenced in area with a custom built swing set, complete with baby swing, treehouse, and slide. It attaches to a pergola that has a sitting area with twinkle lights strung through the nearby tree. A pea gravel garden features a fire pit with seating, perfect for roasting smores or sharing an evening conversation around the fire. The backyard also features a clothesline for drying any laundry you may need to do while here (there is a dryer available here as well).

This porch is perfect for backyard dining! We have a large family sized table that seats 6 but will allow for more chairs. It overlooks the backyard and firepit area as well as the surrounding fields.

Another favorite spot! We love this porch and are so glad we screened it in last year. It has comfortable furniture, a local-built porch swing and is in full shade. It is the best spot for listening to birds as they sing in the magnolia tree and other surrounding trees.

The Stay Home Gallery studio space is a dream! We built this studio by hand after so much saving and prepping. The 320 square foot space has windows on the east, west and south sides with a large interior wall spanning 20ft- perfect for hanging work and viewing it with lots of light. There is a poured cement floor for easy clean up, an artists bench/worktable, storage and a utility sink. Open the sliding glass door for a view of the garden or watch your kids play in the side yard while you work. A heating/cooling system will keep you comfortable in the cold or heat!

FAQ:

Q: Is the gallery open to the public?

A: For now and for the foreseeable future, due to COVID-19 precautions and a priority for the health and safety of our artists, the gallery is not open to the public while artists are in residence. During weeks in which there are no artists in residence, requests for appointments can be made ahead of time.

Q: Who are the caretakers of this property?

A: Kaylan’s parents, Rich and Sheri Reynolds, live across the lot from the residency home. They maintain the house and large vegetable garden on the residency property, do the lawn work and keep the home ready for each resident to use. They will respect your privacy while you are at the residency but will also be nearby and available for anything you may need!

Q: How much does the residency cost?

A: Our initial cost is based on a sliding scale based on income. From there, we offer scholarships to single mothers, women of color, those with chronic illness or disability, LGBTQIA+ folks, members of the Artist/Mother Crit Group Program, and anyone who has exhibited their art with us. We like to talk cost on an individual basis, as we want to work with you to make this happen.

Q: Can the cost of the residency be split?

A: Yes! As a COVID-19 precaution, we are currently booking the house as an entire unit. In the future, we may book the rooms individually but for now, we feel it is best to let the artists come alone, with their families, or with friends they feel comfortable being in close proximity with. There are 3 bedrooms and artists are free to come together and split the cost of the residency.

Q: Why isn't your residency free?

A: Some residencies are free and even pay artists to come- which is amazing! These residencies are very competitive and often want to see that you've completed a residency in the past before granting you theirs. That's where spaces like ours come in! We do not have a hierarchy based on emerging or established artists, and we want you to design a residency that works for you. Whether that means you bring your whole family, come alone, or bring friends along to support you. Free residencies also will generally expect something in return, like an exhibition or programming. We will only ask that you share some photos of your time in the residency so we can promote you as an artist on our social media and website!

Q: Do you have any children’s items?

A: Bedroom #2 is equipped with a crib and our storage collection includes a handful of items to make your stay with us easier. You are welcome to our portable highchair, baby toys, and more. Just let us know what you’ll need and we will have it out and ready for you!

Q: Do you have household amenities?

A: We renovated this kitchen the year after we moved into this house and we are so glad we did! A huge custom island with lots of seating gives opportunity for cozy meals or sharing a glass of wine while someone is still cooking dinner. There are 4 windows that overlook the fenced in backyard, which means you can be working in the kitchen and have your kids safely playing right outside where you can see them. The back corner boasts a custom copper sink and laundry area with a washer/dryer. All the kitchen amenities you may need are included; a large gas range stove, full size fridge, dishwasher, collection of pots and pans and more. We have children’s dishes, some extra bibs and silverware too!
